quick intro

About the ERA Chair
of Space Chemistry and Technology

Pushing the boundaries of space chemistry and technology to new frontiers. In 2025, the ERA Chair in Space Chemistry and Technology was established at the J. Heyrovský Institute (HIPC) to build excellence in space research and innovation. Led by Prof. Dr. Bernd Abel, the initiative aims to position HIPC as a key player in space chemistry through groundbreaking research, international collaboration, and the development of advanced instruments for space exploration.

Our mission is to:

push the boundaries of astrochemistry and space technologies,

focusing on the chemistry of space environments, novel materials, and analytical tools like compact high-resolution mass spectrometers.

Supported by HIPC’s leadership and aligned with the
ERA Chair Widening program, we cooperate with leading institutions such as ESA and NASA. This initiative marks
a major step forward in understanding the universe — and preparing for future space missions.
